Hoping to form a poem of it sometime.<\/p>\n<div class=\"poem\">\nNo sooner have I settled at a desk, or on a step, to write<br \/>\nI hear some argument in the street or from the garden.<br \/>\nShared now, sadly, by the people who shout.<br \/>\nShout to greet. Shout when departing and each moment in between.<br \/>\nWhy pay for the mobile phone which dominates their day<br \/>\nIt seems unlikely they cannot be heard. Far away.<\/p>\n<p>I watched a programme set in Lahore. From there to Mumbai.<br \/>\nThe poverty was a sin. Shrink wrapped in miserable heat.<br \/>\nYet the cruelest strain was the absence of silence.<br \/>\nStill people manage to create, breed, sleep and eat.<br \/>\nPrivacy must be borne from fatigue. Sound blind<br \/>\nNot deaf but unable to hear. Senses calcified. Ossified. Paralysed.<\/p>\n<p>No sweat forms on their skin, there is no crust. Nothing cracks.<br \/>\nThe temperatures crackle and another generation wither.<br \/>\nWithin their shadows I sought solace to cool my envy and my pity.<br \/>\nAll the while the people who shout continue. Shouting at their phone.<br \/>\nShout about money, confirmation, deliveries. In need of medication.<br \/>\nPointless, noisy declarations. In a silent town.
